This horse riding challenge will take you into the homeland of Chinggis Khaan, where you will move through party forested, partly mountainous landscapes, interrupted by streams and rivers. It will take you 8 days to ride along with your pack horses, starting from the Baga Khentii Mountains, ending at the Bogd Khaan Mountain just south east of Ulaanbaatar. On the way you will see Nomadic life at it’s finest. Being “Nomads” ourselves, we will experience their hospitality, and learn about their lives. Your horse riding adventure begins in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s capital, before heading out to a secluded region, for the most part untrodden as yet by tourist, though within a few hours’ journey from the capital. In the city you’ll spend a day visiting the city’s sights including visits to Gandan Monastery and the Bogd Khaan Palace.
After breakfast you will have a sightseeing tour to Gandan Monastery and the National History Museum followed by lunch at a local restaurant. Then you will be transferred to the train station to take a train to Mandal, which takes about 2 hours. On your arrival, you will be met by your horseman and start riding towards the Bayangol River near the Bayangol Resort. Today’s ride will cover approximately 8kms.
After breakfast, you will start riding through wide-open land until you reach Mount Tsokhiot. You will pass the small village of “Udleg”.Later your ride takes you through deep forests rich in Siberian larch, which is the home to deer, wolves, and moose. You will camp in the larches near Sanzai Mountain. Today’s ride will cover approx. 30kms.
You will wake up to the voice of singing birds. Today’s adventure takes you along the slope of Mount Ikh Yan, the Uliastain River, and finally to the plain of Burkhantiin Zuu where you will camp. Here you will see some rock paintings of ancient Gods. Today’s ride will cover approx. 20 kms.
After breakfast at the camp, you will ride towards the Terelj River riding down to Uliastai River and passing through Davaany Am. You will camp overnight on the banks of the Terelj River. Today’s ride will cover approx. 30kms.
Today you will spend a relaxing day at the Terelj River in the Terelj National Park. You will be free to go riding, fishing or hiking around the area. You can take a morning ride to a local nomadic family, or simply take it easy and rest your backside!
Today you will continue to ride along the Terelj River and pass the park. As you leave civilization behind, you will start seeing squirrels, marmots and various birds. Your camp side will be on the slope of Shilj Ereeny Pass, which is the place of unique assemblage of different plants (especially flowers) and animals. Today’s ride will cover approx. 30kms.
Following breakfast at the camp you will ride up to Gachuurt's Mount Nuramt which is the heartland of the Khentii Mountain range on the banks of the mighty Tuul River. Here you’ll have the opportunity to observe and explore the area with a trained guide. Dinner and overnight at Nomads ger camp. Today’s ride will cover approx. 30kms.
Today you will have time to relax and enjoy the natural beauty. You can hike along the forested hillsides that are decorated in mountain flowers and full of crystal clean waters. We hope this will increase your appetite for the wonderful farewell dinner to follow! “Khorkhog” is a traditional specialty of mutton and vegetable cooked in hot stones under high pressure. There will be an organized trek after dinner “Riding under the moonlight”. Overnight at the same ger camp.
After breakfast you will return to Ulaanbaatar by vehicle. On arrival you will be taken to your hotel.
Domestic flights, transportation within Mongolia. Single accommodation can be arranged at an additional cost. Tented accommodation while on trek, three meals a day, English-speaking guide, all sightseeing costs, transfers, camel or horse hire where specified, support staff including drivers, horse/camel men and camp assistants.
International transportation, travel insurance, visas, departure tax, alcoholic drinks, gratuities, items of a personal nature.
It is the responsibility of the client to be fully covered with travel and medical insurance while traveling in Mongolia.
Upon request, single supplement in the countryside can be provided at the additional cost. In case single accommodation in ger camps was not provided the amount would be calculated based on the missing nights and reimbursed.
Nomads cannot be held responsible for over bookings, as long as the company can prove with sufficient documentation that overbooking has been the error of the third party.
Should circumstances beyond our control, such as the imposition of quarantine restrictions, any changes of domestic flight or train schedules, require a change of itinerary, we will inform your agent and propose an equivalent itinerary. Again, Nomads cannot take over the responsibility for the Airlines or the National Train Company. The traveler is responsible for having proper travel documents, such as a valid passport, proper visa and the necessary passport pictures.
